ERKELENZER LAND Since the situation around the corona virus has become increasingly acute in Germany, masks and disinfectants have been in great demand. This has not only spawned numerous private initiatives in Erkelenzer Land, for example sewing masks for their environment, companies have also used their opportunities during the low-order period to start the production of the scarce goods on a larger scale. But it did not stop. There are also companies that developed innovative ideas and products from them during the crisis with which they want to assert themselves on the market..
The automotive supplier SPT from Wegberg is specifically committed to this. He plans to go into series production with his sister company TPE at the end of May, and up to 10,000 masks per week can then be produced. We were very critical of the whole thing at the beginning, but because we then saw the bottleneck and the environmental problem through one-way solutions, we tackled the issue, explains Managing Director Erik Backes. The result is a mask that, according to Backes, is entering a niche because it lies qualitatively between the everyday masks and the FFP-certified respirators. It is also sustainable because it is washable and therefore reusable. In addition, a filter insert that can be disinfected up to three times is being developed in cooperation with RWTH Aachen. In the future, it should even be biodegradable. Mask production in Wegberg would have further charm because it would strengthen cooperation with Lebenshilfe Heinsberg and thus secure jobs for people with disabilities. The aim is also to have the product FFP certified.n.
